Seats and limits

A seat is a place in your organization — every member occupies one, admins included. How many you have depends on your billing state.

Your seat limit is the number of seats on your team plan, and an organization without a plan has no seats at all — invite links, CSV imports, and identity-provider provisioning will each turn people away with a message pointing at billing until seats exist. The Settings → Organization page shows seats used against seats available.

When every seat is taken, all the ways of adding people respond the same way rather than silently failing. The invite link declines politely and tells the person to ask you about seats. CSV import reports the over-limit rows as failed so you can add seats and re-run the file. SCIM provisioning returns a clear error to your identity provider, which will retry on its own after you've expanded the plan. And single sign-on won't auto-provision a first-time user into a full organization.

Removing someone frees their seat immediately — there's no billing lag on the roster side. Adjusting the seat count itself happens through the billing section on the same page; see team seats and pricing for how the plan and the billing portal work.

One nuance worth knowing: if a payment fails and your subscription goes past due, your seat limit stays where it was — a billing hiccup doesn't suddenly make your organization unlimited or lock your staff out. Settle the invoice through the billing portal and everything continues.
